Blue Bird Dental uses the Solea® all-tissue CO2 dental laser for selected hard- and soft-tissue procedures when it is clinically appropriate. For selected procedures, Solea may reduce drill noise, vibration and the need for local anesthetic. Your dentist will confirm whether it fits your specific treatment.
What Is the Solea Laser?
Solea is a computer-guided, all-tissue CO2 dental laser. It may be used on selected hard tissue (enamel and dentin) and soft tissue (gums). For many suitable procedures it may reduce the noise and vibration associated with a conventional drill, and in some suitable cases local anesthetic may not be required. Conventional instruments or local anesthetic may still be required, depending on the tooth, the material involved and the clinical situation.
Procedures That May Be Suitable
Dr. Kler uses Solea primarily for small, single-surface composite fillings, which can often be completed without any local anaesthetic at all. That makes it particularly useful for children and for adults who find the needle the worst part of a visit.
It is also used for selected soft-tissue work, including gum contouring and frenectomies. Larger or deeper restorations, and cases involving certain materials, are treated conventionally with anaesthetic — your dentist will confirm at your visit which applies to you.
Potential Benefits
For small single-surface fillings, treatment can often be completed with no needle and no freezing, which is the benefit patients notice most. There is less drill noise and minimal vibration. Treatment may be efficient in selected cases, and individualised post-treatment instructions will be provided. The laser also allows precise soft-tissue treatment. Individual experiences vary, and suitability is decided case by case.
Is Solea Right for Every Patient or Procedure?
No. Solea is not appropriate for every patient, cavity or procedure. Dr. Ash Kler or another treating dentist will determine whether laser dentistry or a conventional approach is most appropriate after assessing your individual needs.
Solea for Children
Solea is especially useful for children. A small single-surface filling can often be completed with no needle and no freezing, which removes the part of the visit most children dread and many remember for years afterwards.
