To be clear at the outset: Blue Bird Dental does not provide dermal fillers. What Dr. Kler does offer is Botox, used in two situations — easing the muscles responsible for jaw clenching, and softening fine lines.
Dentists are well placed for this work for a straightforward reason. The muscles involved in clenching and in facial expression are the muscles a dentist works around every day, and the anatomy of the jaw, bite and facial musculature is core dental training rather than an add-on.
Clenching and grinding put enormous, sustained force through the jaw muscles, the teeth and the joints. Most patients first notice it as a jaw that feels tired in the morning, temple headaches, or teeth that have become sensitive to pressure.
Botox can reduce the strength of the contraction in the large chewing muscles at the side of the jaw. For patients whose clenching has not been adequately managed by a nightguard alone, it can be a useful addition rather than a replacement — the guard protects the teeth, while the injection addresses the force behind the problem.
Suitability depends on an examination. Individual response varies, the effect is temporary, and treatment may need repeating. Your dentist will explain what to expect for your situation. Teeth Grinding
The same product, used in smaller amounts in the upper face, softens the lines produced by repeated expression. It is a modest, temporary treatment rather than a transformation, and results vary between individuals.
Because it is temporary, it is also low-commitment: if you dislike the result, it fades.
We do not provide dermal fillers, lip augmentation or any volumising injectable. If that is what you are looking for, we would rather tell you now than at the appointment. Botox is the only injectable treatment offered here, and only for the two purposes described above.
A consultation first, covering your medical history, what you are hoping to change, and whether treatment is appropriate at all. Treatment itself is quick. Any discomfort is brief. Effects develop over several days rather than immediately, and they are temporary in every case.
You will be told what it costs before anything proceeds. This treatment is generally not covered by dental insurance, though clenching-related care is worth asking your insurer about.
No. Blue Bird Dental provides Botox only, for jaw clenching and fine lines.
The muscles involved are the ones dentists work around daily, and jaw clenching is a dental problem before it is a cosmetic one.
It may reduce the force behind it for a period. It is not a cure, results vary between patients, and a nightguard is usually still recommended to protect the teeth. Teeth Grinding
The effect is temporary in all cases and wears off gradually. Duration varies between individuals, and repeat treatment may be discussed.
Generally not, though it is worth asking your insurer where treatment relates to clenching. Any estimate is not a guarantee of payment.
Book a consultation. If it is not appropriate for you, we will say so.
